We meet the challenges of modern engineering with our expertise in simulation and design. We successfully accompany our project partners into the age of digital engineering by supporting them in the design of components, assemblies, products, processes, machines or plants.

The Fraunhofer IGCV has expertise in the design of fiber-reinforced plastic components and components made of metallic materials. For this reason, we can also offer you support in the development of products in mixed construction. Process-specific simulation approaches for Casting and composite technology as well as for additive manufacturing processes enable you to achieve "first-time-right manufacturing".

Our expertise in the field of simulation includes

  • Structural simulation, e.g. for topology optimization of structural components,
  • The process simulation, e.g. for the design of the filling process during sand casting,
  • Physics-based simulation, e.g. for the design of machines or production processes.

Common finite element and finite volume methods as well as approaches of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are further developed and applied to specific processes. In addition, we use methods of artificial intelligence to design processes more efficiently on the basis of data evaluation. For this purpose, methods of machine learning and big-data analytics, for example, are used.
