Girls' Future Day

Young scientists visit: Girls'Day 2022

On Girls'Day 2022, schoolgirls were able to gain an insight into the everyday research life of scientists in casting engineering. Together with utg (Chair of Forming Technology and Foundry Engineering at TU Munich), we welcomed the girls to our site in Garching.

Girls'Day is designed to give girls an understanding of professions in which men have tended to work up to now and in which young women are particularly in demand for this very reason. Therefore, we were pleased to welcome seven schoolgirls aged between 11 and 15 to this year's Girls'Day.

The group spent the morning in our new casting technology center in Garching. The schoolgirls were presented with sand analysis, microscopy, 3D printing of sand molds, and casting simulation. They were then able to put their newly gained knowledge into practice themselves in the afternoon: The girls were able to mold an owl casting mold in sand themselves. The mold was then cast so that each participant could take home an aluminum owl as a souvenir.

The supervisors at utg and Fraunhofer IGCV were very pleased with the lively interest and the exciting questions from the girls. We hope the participants of Girls'Day 2022 had a lot of fun with us and are already looking forward to next time!
